Is Scribus as good as InDesign?įrankly, Scribus is far from being as feature-rich as Adobe InDesign but its offers are enough to suffice for your indie publishing venture or personal project needs in a more affordable way.

Although importing PDF and EPS will be a hassle as you will need GhostScript to do so and this isn't easy for beginners to scripting. Normally, we are producing nightly builds of the Scribus main branch but, currently, the newest Scribus code cannot easily be built on Linux: The team decided to start the migration of Scribus Qt 6 and there are no Qt 6 packages available for Debian or Ubuntu, yet. However, you can drag and drop elements with ease and export documents in EPS, SVG, and PDF format. You have to change them and preview how they will look in another window. Even just changing fonts doesn't happen in real-time. You may encounter several formatting issues when importing text as everything has to be done manually. One thing that isn't so easy to master on this design tool though is formatting. Although the interface isn't as slick as it could be, it works excellently across platforms so it hasn't been designed with any one particular operating system in mind. Thanks in advance.Although it's completely free, Scribus offers some publishing power including support for CMYK color, separations, ICC color management, and versatile PDF creation.

This should mean that you can install multiple versions with the same prefix with no clashes. Eg, the binary could be scribus-1.3.4cvs. If you need any more information on this matter, please say so and I'll do what I can. Some options that the Scribus 1.3.5+ CMake files know about (more to come): WANTVERSIONING1: Sets the build to use the VERSION setting as a suffix for the install directories and the binary.

I really hope the two problems stated above can be fixed with the next version of Scribus so I can deploy Scribus to all the workstations I maintain. Could this problem also be fixed with the next release of Scribus? That would be awesome. Sadly this didn't work and the uninstall progress is hanging somewhere in the background asking me if its ok to remove the folder and all the files within. I've also tried removing Scribus from the workstation silently using "C:\Program Files\Scribus 1.3.3.11\uninst.exe /S" as the command which is supposed to remove the program without asking any questions. Could this behavior somehow be changed to actually install the startmenu entry into the "All Users" startmenu rather than into the startmenu of the user issuing the installation? For now I've written a little dos batch file to move the whole folder to the right directory but this cannot be the solution of the problem.Ģ. After looking around for a bit i found the startmenu folder in "C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Starmenu\Program Files\" instead of "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Startmenu\Program Files\".

The silent installation is issued by the System user on my workstations and after the installation is finished there is no starmenu entry for scribus. I've just tried installing Scribus silently preparing for deploying Scribus to a couple hundred workstations (windows machines in schools mostly) using the command line parameter /S (as this is a Nullsoft installer) but immediately faced a few problems.ġ.
